The
Batture

Project
Info

Sited at the Greenville Bend of the Mississippi River, the former Bisso Marine site will soon be home to a new riverfront park offering local restaurants and bars called The Batture. Located between the vibrant Batture community upriver and The Fly, the former industrial site provides the ideal opportunity to bring a mix of public and private commerce to the river side of the levee through adaptive reuse of existing structures and the construction of new buildings. The reinvigorated site will serve as an extension of Audubon Park, the Zoo, and the Fly, further energizing the surrounding neighborhoods, parks, and public spaces.

CICADA studied the history of the site within its greater context to inform and create a series of design guidelines that outline how The Batture is to be developed. The primary focus of the guidelines is to ensure that the scale of development fits within the larger neighborhood, to employ sustainable strategies, and ensure unobstructed views to the river.
