Chartres: A Historic Renovation in the Heart of Bywater
Nestled in the vibrant Bywater neighborhood, just downriver from the French Quarter, Chartres embodies the spirit of New Orleans’ rich architectural heritage. This meticulously restored property consists of two historic late-1800s structures—the Main House and the Carriage House—offering accommodations for up to 12 guests. A lush courtyard, framed by original brick and wrought iron, serves as an idyllic setting for intimate gatherings, creative retreats, and curated experiences.
CICADA played a pivotal role in the revitalization of Chartres, overseeing master planning, zoning, and permitting while ensuring compliance with local historic preservation agencies. The team began the restoration process by creating a highly accurate digital twin of the existing site with our photogrammetry and laser scanning technology. Our collaboration with LKI’s interior design team, the property operator, Dear Valentine, and the construction team INHAB millworks resulted in a seamless fusion of timeless craftsmanship and contemporary luxury.
With expertise in historic renovations and commercial new construction, CICADA is dedicated to preserving the architectural integrity of New Orleans while embracing modern design. Chartres stands as a testament to this philosophy—a place where past and present converge, inviting travelers to experience the soul of the city through its walls, courtyards, and stories.
