Project
Info
This modern infill in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans was a unique project designed to fit a nonconforming lot. CICADA worked with the owner, contractor, New Orleans’ Historic District Landmarks Commission (HDLC), and the City of New Orleans’ permitting office to fit a new contemporary 3-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom house on the substandard lot. The design offers a clean, modernist reinterpretation of the traditional Creole cottages of South Louisiana. Minimalist wood screens were used across the exterior to provide privacy and to reference the surrounding environs.

Overview
This modern infill in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans offers a clean, modernist reinterpretation of the traditional Creole cottages of South Louisiana. Tasked with designing a home with modern amenities on a small, nonconforming lot, CICADA worked with the homeowner, contractor, New Orleans’ Historic District Landmarks Commission, and the city permitting office to find a sensitive solution for a modern problem in a historic neighborhood.
